Climate Challenge Fund
The Clydesdale Energy Efficiency Project is funded entirely by the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund.
The Climate Challenge Fund is all about supporting communities to tackle climate change by reducing their carbon emissions. Around 250 communities have been funded and are working hard now to deliver carbon emissions reductions.
There are no further funding rounds scheduled under the 2008-11 Climate Challenge Fund and the final fund allocations are now complete. We stopped taking new applications on the 14th January 2010. No decision has been made regarding the fund post March 2011, although a review has been commissioned and is now beginning to consider the performance of the 2008-11 fund. Results from this review will help inform the Scottish Government on future options for community carbon reduction.
If you'd like to find out more take a look at our case studies and list of projects we're funding to see how your community or others have already put Climate Challenge Funds to good use.
Although no new applications will be considered, this website will continue to be updated on a regular basis, highlighting the work being undertaken by communities who are receiving funding by the Climate Challenge Fund. This will include up to date information on Climate Challenge Fund events organised by the Sustainable Development Commission for Scotland. Please visit http://www.infoscotland.com/gogreener/33.html
Community Energy Scotland
Community Energy Scotland is Scotland’s only national charity dedicated to supporting communities to benefit from renewable energy. Our aim is to build confidence, resilience and wealth at community level in Scotland through sustainable energy development. We help groups develop projects which improve their community buildings, generate power and gain income for further community development. We support groups to strengthen their capacity to take projects forward. We have created a network of Development Officers to deliver this support service. As part of this work, we deliver the Scottish Government Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES).
South Lanarkshire Leisure
Four strategic objectives provide the focus for SLL’s operations as reflected in its charitable activities – the provision of leisure and recreational facilities and associated sports development opportunities – and are as follows:
1 To become a truly inclusive organisation providing quality sport and recreation opportunities for all residents and visitors to South Lanarkshire.
2 To continually improve the service to our customers by developing the effectiveness of our workforce and our working practices, as well as addressing service quality, variety and responding to changing needs, trends etc.
3 To work with local health, education and other agencies to promote good health through our communities with particular reference to the role that regular exercise plays in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
4 To generate an increase in income and reduce the net cost per user.

Coalburn Miners Welfare
The Coalburn Miners' Charitable Society has been at the heart of the local community for many years, with many of the town's population registered as members. We aim to improve the facilities and services available to this former mining community by working in partnership with others to achieve common goals. Given that the voluntary sector in this area generally lacks resources and the support infrastructure due to funding constraints, the Charitable Society has an important role to play in providing resources and leadership to the community and voluntary sector locally.
The Objectives of the Coalburn Miners' Charitable Society is to provide facilities for such forms of recreation and other leisure time occupation as are conducive to the improvement of the conditions of living of the inhabitants of Coalburn and neighbourhood thereof within the Society's sphere of operations as defined from time to time and in particular (but not exclusively) such of the inhabitants as are members of the Mining Community provided that nothing herein contained shall authorise the application of the property to purposes which are not in law charitable.
